WHY OUR WORK
Matters
The Dwelling Place is making a real difference in the lives of abuse survivors.
Overview
Our Purpose
The Dwelling Place exists to break the generational cycle of abuse by equipping and empowering women through the love of Jesus Christ so they can experience lasting freedom.
In the Community
The need for safe housing and the economic resources to maintain safe housing are two of the most pressing concerns among abused women who are planning to or have recently left their abuser.
The Challenges
Transportation
We work with residents to assist them in obtaining their driver’s licenses, assist with car maintenance and repairs, and vehicle purchases.
Women’s Mental Health
Victims of domestic abuse experience a number of mental health challenges. The Dwelling Place works to connect families to mental health resources and support while at the program and when they move out.
Children’s Mental Health and Special Needs
Children who experience domestic abuse can often exhibit a number of mental health concerns and special needs. The Dwelling Place works with each family to ensure these children are connected to the services and resources they need, while at the program and after they move out.
Life Skills
Often times, families coming out of abusive situations have limited life skills or experiences. We work with our residents on budgeting, debt reduction, recreation, library/parks, gardening, and other life skills to increase coping skills and life management.
Living Wages
Jobs are critical to the success of our residents when they move out. We support women with job and career training and education, resume writing, interview skills, assistance with applying.
Affordable Housing
We work with our partners in the community to ensure our residents have access to safe and affordable housing options when they are ready to move out and continue on their journey to living independently.
